Why bother with a Marketing Plan?

Often clients of mine or business owners I talk to think that Marketing is a magic wand eg with some effort and some pizzazz, great results will happen.  Sadly this isn’t the case.  Marketing requires thinking about, planning, implementing and measuring.

I always advise businesses to see marketing as the starting point. Marketing activities or campaigns are not just a tick box exercise,  they are and should be viewed as a continuing and evolving process. “A goal without a plan is just a wish” as they say after all.

Growth is all down to marketing strategy and planning. If you haven’t set any objectives for your company and your marketing activities, how can you decide at the end of the year if you have achieved what you set out to do? The best way to implement marketing successfully into your company is to create a marketing plan.

So, what is a marketing plan?

There are 7 stages to a comprehensive marketing plan including
Objective Setting
Defining the messaging
Defining a strategy
Defining the target audience
Developing the tactics
Implementing the plan
Measuring and evaluation

So, save precious time and money and resource by planning, thinking and covering all angles.  Having a plan will also help break down a large process and a large activity into manageable, bite size chunks.
