ME, MYSELF AND I

March and Marketing

No, I am not being narcissistic, but I am celebrating all things that are good (including me!) as we arrive in March.

Are you marching into the month with purposes and drive and with a spring in your step? Or are you dragging yourself over the line with a winter/February hangover?

I like March for many reasons. It’s my birthday this month. It’s Mother’s Day, the weather picks up, and flowers are growing – red gerberas are a favourite of mine and were my wedding flowers. What are you optimistic about this March? And whatever it is, good luck to you!

Shout out to all the working mums (and Dads) too. According to Statistica there are 1.55 Million self employed women. And 1.9 Million working mums, according to Civitas. That is a great figure. And 80% of the SBS winners of which I am a part of, are female.

About Nicole Martin

This blog is getting to know the person behind the brand, the company name and all that red and marketing stuff.

My past – I was born in Essex, no jokes please. Grammar school education, didn’t fancy Uni so I went on a trainee management scheme instead. Then I went into event management and project management.

I took my CIM exams and did my last exam when my son was 3 weeks old, and I was even revised when being induced, waiting around in hospital. My career has covered me working in agencies and in house as part of a marcomms team. And with management experience for me too.

Family life – I have a lovely and supportive mum and dad and an older sister. I am married, with two teenagers. No pets as sadly lost our cat after 20 years year. And now everyone in the family wants a dog.

Hobbies – I don’t have many as it goes without sounding boring. In down time though, I like to socialise with friends, eat good food and drink wine, and also chill on the sofa with the family, and walks, weather permitting. I like reading and walking, when I get the time. And I enjoy swimming too, ideally in the sunshine, abroad.

Favourite food – Chinese or thai. TV programmes wise I like Googlebox, quiz shows, the soaps, Loose Women and some sport too, mainly Football. And police/crime shows like Trigger Point and Line of Duty. I also like stand up comedy as well, rom coms and funny films like the Hangover, Happy Gilmore and so on. Nothing high brow or cultural as you can tell.

I love a family holiday to Turkey, Spain and Bournemouth as well as girls breaks to the spa, Portugal and Marbella.

Music wise, I like most genres from hip hop to pop to soul and more. George Michael was a real favourite of mine, and I was lucky enough to see him too.

I have a red heart tattoo, at waited until the age of 40 plus.

Why I do what I do?

In May 2019, Pinpoint Marketing won the #WOW award (Women in Business) from the late female entrepreneur, Jacqueline Gold. Read more about this award and concept.

Back in 2018, Pinpoint Marketing won the #SBS award from Dragons Den star, Theo Paphitis. You can read all about it here and here.

I was also lucky enough to have attended a masterclass where a select group of women took part in a role play scenario alongside the inspiring Baroness Karren Brady. This was great business wise, as well as being a West Ham fan and getting to tour the stadium and pitch. My husband and son had FOMO on this.

Pinpoint Marketing is also a Stakeholder member of Buckinghamshire Business First and is an FCIM member. Find out more

What else?

Favourite quote – “don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” – Benjamin Franklin. And also, “If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.” – Red Adair.

Traits I like and respect in others I work with/do business with – humour, friendly, open, genuine and more. And traits I don’t appreciate – negativity constantly, moaning all the time, dishonesty, poor manners, not communicative.
