Navitas Design recently did a poll on LinkedIn asking what the biggest issue businesses had with their website. It was easily “Not getting enough leads from my website”. There can be many reasons why your website isn’t bringing you leads. The first thing we need to look at is does your website get any traffic.
For lots of businesses, we have to work hard for visitors these days as the internet is full of directories, blogs and advice sites competing for the same traffic as your business. The days of building a website and it instantly bringing traffic seem to be gone. Even with the best basics in place at the launch of a site if you have competitors who are actively working on their websites they will likely fair better than the ones who aren’t.
Good website traffic versus bad website traffic
Good traffic is made up of visitors who are interested in your product or service and are actively seeking it out. They may have found your website through a search engine, a referral, or social media. These visitors are more likely to convert into leads because they are already interested in what you have to offer. On the other hand, bad traffic is made up of visitors who have no interest in what you offer. They may have stumbled upon your website by accident, through spammy links or because your website is giving out the wrong message to the search engine. These visitors are unlikely to convert into leads and can even harm your website’s credibility.
How to boost your website’s traffic and conversions:
Optimise your website for mobile devices
With the majority of internet users now browsing on their phones, it’s crucial to make sure your website is mobile-friendly. This means having a responsive design that adapts to different screen sizes and loads quickly on mobile devices.
Utilise social media
Social media is a great tool for driving traffic to your website. Make sure to have a presence on the platforms your clients are using and regularly share your website content to reach a wider audience. Link back to pages or blogs regularly making it easy for your followers to see what you do in more detail.
Create valuable content
People are more likely to visit your website if you offer valuable and informative content. Use a blog or create videos that answer common questions or provide helpful tips related to your industry. This really works well with your social media campaigns.
Having an FAQ section on key pages is helpful to your user and Google.
Improve your website’s loading speed
This one is a holy grail for me! Slow websites lose traffic. Make sure to optimise your website’s images, use caching, (ask a web developer for help if this is a bit too techy) and choose a good hosting provider to improve your loading speed. Google LOVES websites that load fast because it makes the user experience better. Google has a free tool called Lighthouse that you can use to test some of the metrics that it considers for search.
Use keywords
Keywords are important for SEO (search engine optimisation), they help determine how high your website ranks on search engine results pages. Do some research to find out what keywords your target audience is searching for and incorporate them into your website’s content. There are free resources you can use including the Google Keyword Planner. Researching your high ranking competitors keywords is also a useful exercise.
Offer promotions or discounts
Two for one offers, free shipping, free discovery calls or discounts. Any of these can also help increase conversions as customers are more likely to make a purchase if they feel they’re getting good value. Some businesses can offer promotions or discounts easier than others, you may need to use your imagination.
Email marketing
Use email campaigns to promote new products or services. Be sure to drive your links to the important parts of your website and include clear calls to action. Don’t leave it to chance that they will just visit your website because they liked something.
Lead Magnets
If you are struggling to get your email list off the ground or to get the details of people visiting your website, a lead magnet is a great way to encourage users to sign up to your mailing list. You could offer a e-book with free advice, money off or a free consultation. A lead magnet can be a great way to show what you can do before someone chooses to work with you.
Remember to be patient and consistent with your efforts.
It’s important to know that not every method will work for every business. That’s why it helps to work with a team……..
